Step Aside For Royalty
for publisher Chris Moore
The journey: Author Eileen Parker, featured recently on the Neftlix series The Crown, first published this memoir with Chris Moore in the 1980s. However, this newly edited version required a makeover. Publisher Chris found this palatial image in a stock library and asked us to work up a cover design based on it. The cover needed to appeal to fans of the Royal Family, and likely an older, mostly female, demographic. The book was to be featured in a national newspaper serialisation, and most sales would be online, so we needed a simple, bold design that would work well when reproduced at thumbnail size in newsprint and on-screen.
The original production files weren’t available, so we scanned in the pages of the first edition one by one, then used OCR (optical character recognition) software to convert the scanned images into editable text. Once this was checked and approved, we agreed on a suitably regal page design and got stuck into the typesetting and eBook production, providing print-on-demand files for CreateSpace and MOBI files for Kindle Direct publishing.
Chris says: ‘So glad I came to Head & Heart for the design of Step Aside For Royalty. I love the jacket and so do the readers – one of those rare cases where you can judge a book by its cover. Barely two months since the launch we’ve sold nearly 2,000 units on Amazon.’
